Day 12: When God Calls Your Name, How Do You Respond?

Day 12: When God Calls Your Name, How Do You Respond?

“The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ Then Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening.’” – 1 Samuel 3:10 (NIV)

There’s a sacred moment when God calls your name. It may not be audible, but it’s unmistakable—a stirring in your spirit, a prompting you can’t shake, a sense that God is inviting you into something more.

Young Samuel didn’t recognize God’s voice at first. He needed the guidance of Eli to discern that it was the Lord speaking. But once he understood, his response was pure and powerful:
“Speak, for your servant is listening.” That posture—of readiness, humility, and surrender—is the foundation of divine success.

When God calls your name, how do you respond? Do you ignore it, delay it, doubt it? Or do you say, “Here I am, Lord”?
God’s purpose often begins with a simple response. Not a full understanding. Not a mapped-out plan. Just a willing heart.

God isn’t looking for perfection. He’s looking for availability.
Like Moses at the burning bush, like Mary when told she’d bear the Messiah, like Isaiah who said, “Here am I. Send me”—divine purpose always starts with a response.

Your name isn’t just a label. It’s a calling. And when God speaks it, He’s inviting you into His plan.

Prayer:
Father, when You call my name, help me to respond with a heart that’s ready. Remove my fears, my doubts, and distractions. Teach me to say, “Speak, Lord, for Your servant is listening.” Let my life reflect my willingness to follow wherever You lead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection:

  • What is God calling you to do in this season?
  • Are you hesitating or responding with a willing heart?
  • What would it look like for you to say, “Here I am, Lord,” today?
