Devotional 5: “When Waiting Feels Like Wasting”
Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:11
“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, He has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.”
Reflection:
I used to hate waiting. Honestly, I still struggle with it. When you feel called, gifted, and ready, but the opportunity hasn’t come—or doors keep closing—it’s easy to wonder: Did I miss it? Is God delaying on purpose? Or is He not listening at all? But over time, I’ve learned something deeply freeing: God’s delays are not His denials. And they’re certainly not because He’s forgotten you. Instead, they’re a mark of His love and wisdom.
God sees the full picture. We see just a moment. And while we feel the tension of time slipping by, He is shaping us in ways we can’t yet see. That season of waiting? It’s often where the deepest work is done. Where faith is formed, character is refined, and our dependence on Him grows.
Think of Joseph, waiting in a prison for years before God elevated him to leadership. Or Moses, tending sheep in the wilderness before leading a nation. Their delays were not setbacks—they were sacred training grounds.
Your waiting isn’t wasted. God is aligning people, preparing places, and maturing your heart for what’s ahead. If He gave you the promise, trust that He will fulfill it in the fullness of time—His time, not yours.
Prayer:
Father, I confess that waiting is hard. I want answers now, and I don’t always understand Your timing. But I choose to trust that You are working behind the scenes, preparing me for the purpose You’ve designed. Help me to rest in Your faithfulness, even when I don’t see the outcome yet. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
