Devotional 4: “Purpose in the Pain”
Scripture: Romans 8:28
“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”
Reflection:
Pain has a way of making us feel disqualified. We look at the broken seasons—our mistakes, our losses, the moments we’d rather forget—and wonder how God could ever use them. I’ve asked that question many times. In moments when doors closed, relationships failed, or life didn’t go as planned, I questioned God’s purpose. But with time, and with surrender, I came to see that those very moments were not a detour from His plan—they were preparation for it.
Romans 8:28 doesn’t say some things work together for good. It says all things. That means the good, the bad, the joyful, and the painful. God is not the author of our suffering, but He is the Master Redeemer of it.
Looking back, I see how God used seasons of pain to soften my heart, sharpen my vision, and prepare me to help others who are walking through similar struggles. He gave my pain a purpose—and He’ll do the same for you.
Whatever you’ve been through is not wasted. God is writing a redemptive story with your life, and your scars may be the very thing someone else needs to see to find healing. Don’t hide from your past—surrender it. God doesn’t just heal the wound—He brings meaning to the scar.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You that even my pain has a purpose. Help me to stop hiding the broken parts of my story and instead surrender them to You. Use them to bring hope, healing, and purpose to others. Remind me that nothing is wasted in Your hands. Amen.
